Delaware Valley Young Musicians’ Orchestra
The Delaware Valley Young Musicians’ Orchestra, our ensemble for younger and less advanced players, has been in existence as part of the Delaware County Youth Orchestra Organization since the fall of 1989. The YMO orchestra rehearses at Springton Lake Middle School’s Band Room in the Rose-Tree Media School District on Thursday evenings during the school year. The orchestra performs a mixture of classical arrangements and popular music at a high school level. There are two annual concerts: in November and late April. All current players must re-audition in the spring for placement in the orchestra for the next season. New players interested in joining the orchestra must play an audition to be accepted. Audition requirements appear below.
Two conductors share the rehearsals and concert stage. A. Scott Kiehner has been the conductor of the orchestra since 1994. He is an instrumental and general music teacher in Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, where he has taught since 1988. Mr. Kiehner holds a Bachelor of Music in Education and a Masters in Performance on French Horn from the University of Michigan. Since the 2007-2008 season, Elizabeth Klinger, retired string specialist from the Springfield School District, has been our second conductor. She performs with two symphonies and a string quartet and has played violin and viola professionally. A graduate of Temple University and the University of Miami, she has been a string coach for DVYMO and for PMEA String Fests and will be a guest conductor for PMEA District 12 String Fest in 2012. She has guest-conducted the Reading Youth Orchestra and the Lansdowne Symphony.
In the 2011-2012 season we have 65 performers in grades 5 through 12. Most are in 8th and 9th grade. They come from over 14 school districts. The greatest numbers are from Wallingford-Swarthmore school district followed by significant numbers of players from Springfield, Rose Tree- Media, Radnor, and Haverford school districts.

YMO AUDITIONS FOR 2012-2013
Auditions for new players for the Young Musicians’ Orchestra will be on Saturday, June 2, 2012. To arrange for a time and to get directions, please contact Keith Brown at kbrown@voicenet.com.
Violins do not audition for a specific seating but are assigned to each section based on the playing level of all the students auditioning, on the audition scores, and on the number of seats available. Pieces listed below represent an example of the minimum level recommended. We prefer that everyone play a solo, rather than an excerpt from orchestral or band music, to demonstrate the level of playing ability.
