Our Ensembles
The Delaware County Youth Orchestra (DCYO) is an orchestra for advanced students, usually in high school.
Students from all geographic areas are welcome to audition. Qualifications for admission are outstanding musical ability and the desire and dedication required to perform as an orchestral musician.
DCYO holds rehearsals on Tuesday evenings from September through May at Ardmore Presbyterian Church in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. In addition to regular rehearsals, professional musicians coach sectional classes each trimester. DCYO has a mandatory 1-day retreat in the fall, and a second mandatory 1-day retreat in the winter. The orchestra performs concerts in the fall, winter, and spring. DCYO students may optionally participate in Performance Hour.
YMO
The Young Musicians’ Orchestra (YMO) is an orchestra for intermediate students of all ages.
Students from all geographic areas are welcome to audition. YMO is an intermediate-level orchestra performing standard original classical works and quality high-school-level arrangements.
YMO holds rehearsals on Thursday evenings from September through April at Strath Haven High School in Wallingford, Pennsylvania. In addition to regular rehearsals, professional musicians coach sectional classes each semester. YMO has a mandatory 1-day retreat in the fall, and a second optional 1-day retreat with their DCYO colleagues in the winter. The orchestra performs concerts in the fall and spring. YMO students have the optional opportunity to play at Performance Hour.
YMB
The Young Musicians’ Band (YMB) is a concert band for intermediate students of all ages.
Students from all geographic areas are welcome to audition. YMB is an intermediate-level concert band performing standard original works and quality high-school-level arrangements.
YMB holds rehearsals on Thursday evenings from September through April at Strath Haven Middle School in Wallingford, Pennsylvania. In addition to regular rehearsals, professional musicians coach sectional classes each semester. YMB performs a joint concert with the Young Musicians’ Orchestra in the fall and spring.
DCYO Chamber Ensembles
The DCYO Chamber Ensembles are open to registered DCYO students. These ensembles are generally between 3-5 students per group, and tuition is $400 per semester. DCYO Chamber Ensembles meet on Thursday evenings at Strath Haven High School from 6:45pm-8:30pm during the regular DCYO season. Professional coaches lead each chamber group, and the ensembles present a cumulative performance at the end of each semester.
